Bike the Camino de Santiago

Cycling the French route from St Jean Pied de Port, france to Santiago de compostella, spain, (845km) in 6 days

Author: tonyscamino

at the start of 2012 I was much fatter than I used to be and not as fit either. It was time to change. Mi Camino This is a journal in which I documented my training over the year before completing the Camino de Santiago. My aim was to get back to my former fitness. So why so public? Too many false starts; with the best of intentions I’ve started diets and not stuck to them. I’ve started training programmes and not stuck to them. So if I commited to something a bit big then I had to complete it. The Camino is perfect, if you read about it, time and time again the term Camino is used to describe the “journey” not just the “distance” from your door to the resting place of St James. El Camino El Camino de Santiago Frances (The way of St James, The road from France.) is a religious, cultural and spiritual pilgrimage from the French town of St Jean Pied de Port at the base of the Pyrenees right across northern Spain to the City of Santiago de Compostela and the Cathederal that contains the remains of St James, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. The distance of over 800km is covered every year in full or in part by many thousands of pilgrims, all participating in a journey that has endured for twelve centuries. El Camino has been walked by the emperor Charlemagne, pope Callixtus II and king Alfonso II.

I’m now nearly 3 weeks into this challenge. I decided running… Read More Buen Camino! The first steps….
