Saint Jean Pied du Port, Pyranees, France, On the Camino de Santiago

Well we are here and arrived in total darkness. St Jean is very beautifully lit at night and if what we’ve seen so far is anything to go by i’ll be having a little look around before we leave.

The only accommodation we could find this late was the hotel Ramuntcho! Within the old town walls and cobbled streets. From the balcony where we ate pizza you can see the lights of St Jean disappear into thick haze on the mountainside, the route we’ll be taking in the morning. This map shows the Route Napoleon. This is the way out of St Jean and over the Pyranees into Roncesvalles. It’s not looking good for tomorrow but we’ll see. The road route is longer but there is a third possibility….. Do a Joey (the TV comedy “friends”) and “jump in the map”!

This blog: Tony Hemans and Glen Eccles cycled the Camino Frances from St jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago de Compostela covering 845km in 6 days in October 2012.  If you are trying to get fit, planning an adventure, long distance cyclist or just curious about my mid-life crisis then subscribe and share!
